mongo4idea 0.7.0 is done!

Hi all,

I am please to announce the delivery of mongo4idea plugin 0.7.0.

I have been quite busy these last 6 months. I am sorry for the users of Idea 14 (and other latest Jetbrains products) who have waited it fixed.

Significant changes have been maid:
  • New design of Query Panel
  • Drop Collection and Database actions (caution!)
  • Dates are displayed in UTC
  • Better integration of Darcula/Intellij Themes
  • DateTimePicker available when editing a document
  • SSL Support (not tested)
  • Bug fixes of course ;)
As I announced in the previous blog post, I will stop its development and focus on nosql4idea plugin.

I do not forget jenkins plugin users so it will be updated ASAP.

Thanks for using it (over 165000 downloads so far - all versions includes).

New plugin announced

Hi all,

The mongo plugin seems to grow in the right direction and I would like to thank all users who sent me relevant feedbacks.

I was thinking about extending it by supporting other document oriented databases such as RedisDB and CouchDB.

That means I will make some abstraction in the source code to esay make any new NoSQL database support and this plugin will be named nosql4idea.

I will not announce any release date but all interested users will be able to test snapshots on the github page.

Moreover, I will appreciate any donation for helping me to move on this direction. A paypal button is available at the right of this blog.

Thanks again for using it,

David

Mongo 0.6.0 is out

Hi,

this release contains some cool stuff :
  • Collection content UI  was rewritten:
    • it is now displayed as a file tab editor (more convenient than the previous version)
    • Single query panel manages both simple and aggregate
  • You can add new document
  • You can run a js script on your mongo server (CTRL+MAJ+F10)
  • Replica set configuration is supported
  • bugs fixes

Enjoy it :),

David

Last edit : due to some refactoring when coding replica set support in the configuration, server url is unset when updating the plugin. You will have to set it again.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Jenkins Plugin for Intellij 0.8.0 is out

Hi All,

I just released a new version of the Jenkins plugin for IntelliJ. As I mentionned in the previous post, the main change is a better integration in the IDE.

The Rss Feed move to the Event Log:

The Browser has been updated with some UI tweaks and an improvement in data loading:

Multiple server configurations has not been implemented yet.
Actually I wanted to release the work which has been done so far before coding it because a major breakthrough will be necessary.

I hope you will enjoy this version.

Jenkins plugin: upcoming changes

Hi,

Jenkins plugin development has been slowed down for some weeks, due to Mongo plugin and professional matters.

I have been thinking about using the Event Log for the RSS feed. Event Log has been introduced in the Intellij 11. This kind of Notification Center is a nice feature that allows the user not to be disturbed by some information sent by the IDE.
To use it, I will have to stop making the plugin compatible with IntelliJ 10.

I will also implement multiple server configurations. With the experience I gained with the Mongo plugin development, it will be easy to make it. The UI will be redesigned to make it more lighter and usable.

Regards,

David

Mongo plugin 0.2 available

Hi,

Unfortunately, it seems the approval step is taking more time than I think. Usually, it is about 1 day max, sometimes 2 hours. I sent an email to the webmaster but no explanation so far.

If the plugin is not available by the end of this Thursday I will make it available on the github project page. It means you will have to install it manually (Settings -> Plugins -> Install from disk...).

I hope this situation will be back to normal soon.

Edit: If you want to install it, use this link.
Edit 2: The plugin is available now. According to the plugin admin, the plugins validation has been slowed during some days due to annual holidays.

New fun stuff is coming...

Hi,

Few weeks ago, a friend said he would like to explore mongo collections within the IDE with a user experience similar to Firebug (Tree with navigation through the objects).

No mongo plugin for Jetbrains products has existed until now, so I decided to create mongo4idea.

There is a panel which display all databases and collections.

When the user double-click on a collection, he can get all values in another panel in a tree view. The data formatting looks like Firebug .

You can specify some filter or more advanced  such as aggregate.

The plugin is not officialy released on the Jetbrains repo yet. A Snapshot is available on the github project for trying.

Note : This plugin only supports IntelliJ 11.1.4.

Jenkins plugin - Performance Issue in the latest release

Dear All,

I got an issue from the Jetbrains Support Team. It seems the latest version of the plugin causes many issue in the Swing Event Dispatch Thread.
This is probably due to the Autorefresh feature that use the Timer Tasks and for manual refresh, the ExecutorService. The job gets the data from the server and update the UI within a Swing thread.

I currently investigate this issue that causes lower performance of the IDE and I will release a minor version in a couple of days.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

David

Retrospective Format : "the Hiking"

Hi All,

I published an article about a retrospective format named "The Hiking" on the Barre Verte Blog. I applied it with my team some months ago and gave some interesting data.
The article is written in French, so if some people would like to read an English version, I will be glad to translate it.

Bye soon,

David
